I don’t know whether you are aware or not, but I’m also an author.  I’ve written four books over the years and am currently attempting to finish my fifth, which will be on LinkedIn for business.  But, that’s not what I’m writing about in this post though.  The reason for the post, is that I’ve been experimenting with simple e-commerce systems to see which ones work, which ones don’t and how they all do it.  I thought I’d share some of the ones I’ve been using with you today:

1. if you have a look at my new online store on this website, you’ll see that I’ve set up a simple widget, which uses a third party system to manage the books store.  This widget is called ecwid and comes from Russia, but that shouldn’t be any reason to complain!  It seems to function really well.

2. perhaps, like me you only want to sell digital goods, mine happen to be ebooks, but you could be selling music, images, software or other downloads.  In this case, you might want to check out PayLoadz.  A brilliant little system that allows you to host everything remotely.  I’ve added it to my bookshop on my blog at womanon.wordpress.com simply because you can’t use the scripts produced by ecwid.   I’ve also used this on a facebook page I’ve just created called Linda’s Online Bookshop.

3. i also added a nice little plugin to my business card site at lindaph.me, which provides a simple paypal shopping cart to, what is essentially a very simple site.

4. I do have my books on Amazon as well of course, and every other online bookshop worldwide, including Tesco!
